Unlike semiconductors and capacitors, magnetic components haven*t kept pace. I want to understand why 每 and change that
Why haven*t magnetic components evolved like other technologies? This question drives Hongbo Zhao*s research at AAU ENERGY, where he develops smarter, more efficient magnetic components for the electrified future.
His research focuses on transformers and inductors 每 magnetic components found in everything from electric vehicles to wind turbines and mobile devices. These components are essential to power electronics, yet they*ve seen surprisingly few innovations in recent decades.
?? ※Unlike semiconductors and capacitors, magnetic components haven*t kept pace. I want to understand why 每 and change that,§ says Hongbo Zhao.
During his PhD, Hongbo worked on modelling parasitic parameters in magnetic components. But he soon realized that understanding the problem wasn*t enough. He wanted to innovate directly 每 to rethink materials, design, and integration.
?? ※That shift brought me closer to industry. I started applying advanced knowledge to solve practical challenges and create real-world impact.§
Today, Hongbo*s work is more relevant than ever. As the world faces climate change and moves toward electrification, magnetic components play an
important key role in making systems more compact, efficient and durable.
?? ※These components are everywhere electricity flows. By improving them, we can boost the performance of entire systems 每 and support the green transition.§
His recent publications explore everything from gate oscillations in high-voltage SiC MOSFETs to ground current modelling in medium-voltage inductors and electric field behaviour in magnetic cores. The aim of these studies is to help uncover hidden inefficiencies and thereby increase the odds for smarter designs.
Hongbo is part of a strong research environment at Aalborg University, where several researchers work on next-generation power electronics and magnetic integration.
Being selected for AAU Excellence is a milestone for Hongbo 每 and a motivation to keep pushing forward.
?? ※I*ve long admired the researchers in this programme. It*s a recognition of my journey so far 每 and an opportunity to grow, learn, and contribute even more.§
