Geography is about maps, right?

Geography is more than making maps. The role of a geographer is to understand, explain and predict both human and physical environments.

At the Master¡¯s programme in Geography at Aalborg University, we focus on both sides of the relation between humans and the environment. Graduates from this programme will have the title cand. scient. in Geography.

A sustainable future

By studying the physical forces that shape the earth and the political, economic, social and environmental matters that happen as a consequence of human interactions with the earth, geographers are able to find solutions for complex problems at local, regional and global scale. No doubt that geography skills are very important: climate change, urbanization, pollution, mobility, energy supply, geographers will help to understand and plan for a sustainable future.

Field work is everything

Field work is very important for geographers. Data, which geographers need to solve the complex problems we face today, has often to be found in the field: sampling, measurements, observations or interviews. A geographer definitely does not sit in the office all day!

Geographers bring the skills and tools

In an era of ¡®big data¡¯ geographers can provide the skills and tools to support decision-making and planning across government and industry. Geographic Information System (GIS) is the most used software for geographers. GIS helps to display (new) geographical contexts.
